Character Development & Leadership Training Classes!

If that sounds like something that your child could benefit from, (and couldn't we all?), it's time to register for dance classes! Yes, dance classes are a great way to meet new friends, get some fun exercise and learn some new dance moves - that's a given. But what about the higher level, or deeper level (however you want to think about it) benefits that dance classes offer? Let's examine a few of them.

Discipline: perhaps we should consider this the self-discipline that a dancer needs to manage their health and fitness, as well as following the standards of behavior and decorum which are expected in a dance environment. Dancers need the discipline and perseverance to learn the routines and to follow through with the repetition necessary to master them.

Teamwork: This is one of the most critical elements of dance. Dancers need to be aware of their fellow dancers constantly and they have to make an untold number of small adjustments as they sync with each other when they learn and practice a given step or routine. There are other ways to support the team. Dancers ask themselves: Am I bringing the amount of energy that the other dancers are giving? Am I showing up to class with a positive attitude that will lift myself and the other dancers? How can I support a fellow dancer who may be struggling with the steps? All of these thoughts are commonplace in a dance class.

Self-Confidence: There's no doubt that the feeling that a dance has after a successful showcase performance is a burst of self-confidence. But, let's not forget the many weeks of learning, making mistakes, receiving correction and critiques from the instructor, that led to that moment. All of it is important in the growth of self confidence - the dancer takes all of this in stride, understanding the important skill of accepting both positive and negative feedback as an necessary part of learning and growing as a dancer and a person.

Discipline, Teamwork, Self-Confidence: These are just some of the traits that are taught and developed in dance classes. The really great thing is that the dancer takes them and uses them in the other areas of their lives, and for the rest of their lives!
